Sage varieties compared

Which wholesale sage should your store carry?

Our sage category covers four distinct bundles. White sage (Salvia apiana) is the best-selling retail smudge variety and the one most buyers start with. Dragon blood sage is white sage hand-rolled with Dragon's Blood resin, which gives it a deep red color and a warmer, sweeter aroma - the visual standout of a smudge display. Desert sage is sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) with an earthy, grounding scent that experienced smudge customers look for. Garden sage (Salvia officinalis) is cultivated culinary sage, softer and more herbaceous than white sage, and a practical option for stores that prefer a sage bundle not sourced from wild white sage stands.

All four are hand-bundled, tightly wrapped for an even burn and quality-checked before dispatch from our Atlanta, Georgia warehouse. Most retailers stock white sage as the anchor and add one or two of the others for assortment depth: dragon blood for a high-margin specialty item, desert sage or Salvia officinalis for customers who want an alternative to white sage.

The wholesale minimum is 50 units and varieties can be mixed, so a first sage order can combine white sage with dragon blood, desert sage, palo santo or herbal bundles in any split. Free shipping to the 48 contiguous states is included. Request the price list for per-unit wholesale pricing by variety.

Retailer questions

Sage Varieties - before you order

What is the difference between white sage and desert sage?

White sage is Salvia apiana, with a clean, crisp aromatic smoke; it is the best-selling smudge variety. Desert sage is sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata), with a deeper, earthier, more grounding scent. Both are hand-bundled and quality-checked; desert sage is usually stocked as an alternative next to white sage rather than instead of it.

Is Salvia officinalis the same as white sage?

No. Salvia officinalis is common culinary (garden) sage, a different species from white sage (Salvia apiana). Its aroma is softer, greener and more herbaceous. We sell it in retail-ready case packs of 50, 100 and 200 for stores that want a cultivated sage bundle.

Can I mix sage varieties in one wholesale order?

Yes. The minimum order is 50 units across any mix of varieties - white sage, dragon blood, desert sage, Salvia officinalis, plus palo santo, cedar or herbal bundles from the other categories.

Do you supply white sage in bulk quantities?

Yes. White sage is our most requested variety and is available in bulk for retailers, distributors and private label brands. See the bulk white sage supplier page for volume ordering, or request the wholesale price list.
